Rep. Ron Wait Files “Bachman’s Law” Legislation to Require Police to use lights while exceeding speed limits.

Springfield, IL – In the wake of a Winnebago Sheriff’s Deputy, who was involved in a fatal crash as he speed to the scene of a domestic disturbance, many questions have been raised about police policy regarding speed of pursuit and usage of safety equipment. After consulting with the Illinois State Police, Representative Wait has filed legislation today that will require law enforcement officers to use emergency lights in instances that they are driving in excess of the posted speed limit on an official call.

Rep. Wait Named to Servicemember and Veterans Education Task Force

Belvidere, IL….State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) has been appointed as a member of the Task Force on Servicemember and Veterans Education by House Republican Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego). The purpose behind the new task force is to study and make recommendations regarding the educational needs of Illinois veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces.

Governor Signs Rep. Wait Bill to Increase Safety for Domestic Violence Victims

Springfield…Today, the Governor signed legislation co-sponsored by State Representative Ron Wait which will increase protection for victims of domestic violence. Senate Bill 2719 will allow the courts to order GPS tracking for offenders who violate an order of protection.

“Heart-breaking domestic violence stories can be heard in small communities and large cities throughout the state. We must take serious steps to reduce the potential for such violent crimes. Illinois residents will now receive greater protection and sense of safety because of electronic surveillance,” Rep. Wait said.

Rep. Wait Provides Easier Access to E85 and Biodiesel Information

Springfield, IL… In a “Go Green” effort down in Springfield, State Representative Ron Wait’s (R-Belvidere) bill, House Bill 271, was signed by the governor to grant consumers easier access to ethanol and biodiesel fuel information. The bill provides that each state agency that maintains an internet web site may include hypertext links to websites containing information on ethanol and biodiesel fuels.

Reuse-A-Shoe Program a Continued Success

Belvidere, IL… After another full month of participation in Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program, State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) is ready to make another drop off. Since he began his participation, Representative Wait has collected over 350 pairs of shoes.

“I can not begin to explain how happy it makes me to see the community involvement in such a great cause,” said Wait. “I want to thank everyone who stopped by during my community office hours and Superior Coating of Belvidere for all of their generous donations.”

Belvidere, IL – Representatives Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) and Dave Winters (R-Shirland) held a telephone town hall meeting today with over 12,000 constituents participating. A telephone town hall meeting allows interested constituents to ask questions directly to legislators. Topics included emergency response for the recent flooding disasters, creating a better jobs climate in the state and the overtaxing of small business in the State of Illinois.

Wait/Winters Plan Disaster Flyover; Plan to Fight for IEMA Funding for Rebuilding After the Flooding

Winnebago County, IL- State Representative Dave Winters (R-Shirland) and State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) are looking for assistance to residents in the Winnebago County disaster areas in the coming days. Winnebago County was declared a disaster area Monday afternoon by Governor Rod Blagojevich to help mitigate an already serious situation and the legislators are planning on touring the flooded areas in the upcoming days.

Rep. Wait: Reuse-A-Shoe Program a Success

Belvidere, IL… After a full month of participation in Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe Program, State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) is ready to make his first drop off of the athletic shoes to be recycled.

“We have almost 300 pairs to donate with all of the donations at my district office, the community office hours and Durand High School,” stated Wait. “We are so happy with the turn out that my staff and I are planning on keeping the program going throughout the summer.”

The Durand High School Environmental Club, led by Lisa Franke a Durand High School Science Teacher, held their own drive.
