Wait/Winters Held a Town Hall Teleconference Talking About the State of the State of Illinois as Well as Emergency Response for Flood Victims.
Belvidere, IL – Representatives Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) and Dave Winters (R-Shirland) held a telephone town hall meeting today with over 12,000 constituents participating. A telephone town hall meeting allows interested constituents to ask questions directly to legislators. Topics included emergency response for the recent flooding disasters, creating a better jobs climate in the state and the overtaxing of small business in the State of Illinois.
When asked about assistance for flood victims in disaster areas the legislators stated that they are in constant contact with Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA). Earlier in the day, the two representatives participated in briefings held by IEMA and a flyover of the disaster areas.
When Representative Winters stated that Illinois is one of the worst in the nation for job growth; one caller called the situation “pathetic”. Representative Winters stated, “When the Governor tried to pass the biggest tax hike in Illinois history last year, fortunately, we killed it. Instead of working to bring more jobs to Illinois, the Democrat Leadership seems to want to drive them out. Why would a business want to relocate to Illinois when the threat of more taxes is always there?”
“One of the callers was a small business owner who said the State of Illinois is imposing too many taxes on his business and might have to leave the State of Illinois.” Said Wait, “That is what the problem is; we impose too many burdens on business and drive them away to Indiana, Iowa or even out of the country. We need to create jobs, not tax them to death.”
A constituent called in to thank Representative Wait and Winters for supporting HB 1462 which strengthened the law protecting victims of sexual crimes and provides for extending the limitation period within which to bring an action for an injury caused by sexual conduct. That legislation was signed into law as Public Act 95-0589.
