Rep. Wait: Reuse-A-Shoe Program a Success

Belvidere, IL… After a full month of participation in Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe Program, State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) is ready to make his first drop off of the athletic shoes to be recycled. 

“We have almost 300 pairs to donate with all of the donations at my district office, the community office hours and Durand High School,” stated Wait.  “We are so happy with the turn out that my staff and I are planning on keeping the program going throughout the summer.”

The Durand High School Environmental Club, led by Lisa Franke a Durand High School Science Teacher, held their own drive.

“We found out about this ‘Nike Grind’ (Reuse-A-Shoe) by researching ‘recycled shoes’ on the internet.  We thought that we would have to actually make the road trip to Aurora or Madison to deliver the shoes … we found the mystateline.com web page – and voila – Rep. Ron Wait’s office is making our project turn into an easy one,” said Franke.

Representative Wait is also pleased to announce a new partner and drop off location.  Superior Coating in Belvidere is teaming up with Representative Wait in his shoe recycling drive.  The drop off location is at 6860 Indy Dr., Belvidere, IL 61008.

“We are very excited to have Superior Coating team up with us in this great program,” said Wait.  “All of the shoe donations made this a success, but making this a community wide effort will make this a huge success.”

Only athletic shoes will be accepted and they can be any brand.  Shoes containing metal, spikes, dress or damp shoes cannot be recycled through this program.

Representative Wait will still be accepting donated shoes at his district office during regular office hours, Monday-Friday.  Also, in conjunction with his community office hours, Representative Wait will be happy to collect any used athletic shoes at the locations on the first Tuesday of each month.
