Springfield, IL… Finally, commuters will have some relief from those dreaded pot holes plaguing Boone, DeKalb and Winnebago Counties. According to State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere), the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has allocated $22.6 million in funding for several critical road projects in their six-year-plan.
“Much of the money allocated for our area is for resurfacing of the roads,” said Wait. “We will be looking forward to much smoother rides down Route 20, 72, 76, 173 and many other well traveled roads.”
Wait says some of the projects to be started in 2009 include:
- $290,000 to resurface Genoa Road from Logan Avenue to Persson’s Parkway (Boone)
- $1,180,000 to resurface Route 23 from Route 72 to North Grove Road (DeKalb)
- $1,050,000 to resurface Route 72 from State Street to Route 23 (DeKalb)
- $550,000 to add turn lanes on Route 76 at Walnut Grove Drive and Business 20 (Boone)
- $400,000 to resurface Interstate 90 from the Wisconsin State Line to Rockton Rd (Winnebago)
- $960,000 to resurface Business 20 from Shaw Road at the Winnebago County Line to Highline Street (Boone)
- $20,000 to make a utility adjustment on Route 76 at Walnut Grove Drive (Boone)
“I am pleased this money has been allocated in the IDOT six-year-plan so area road improvement projects can begin to move forward,” said Wait.
