Representative Wait Proposes “No Tax Increase” Budget
May 31, 2007
Springfield, IL…State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) joined his House Republican colleagues this week in proposing a No Tax Increase Budget. The proposal, announced by House Republican Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego), would put a stop to rampant state spending and block any Democrat-proposed tax increases.
“In light of an ever-increasing cost of living, higher gas prices, skyrocketing electricity rates, and high property taxes, its unconscionable to even consider raising the income tax on hard-working people in Northern Illinois,” Wait said. “While the Democrats are wrangling about how to squeeze more money out of Illinoisians, the House Republicans have proposed a sensible, no tax increase budget that fulfills all of our obligations.”
The House Republican No Tax Increase Budget proposal includes $750 million in natural revenue growth to provide additional funding for education, fund services critical to Illinois families, and meet the state’s pension obligations.
Additionally, the proposal includes a fiscally responsible $5 billion capital plan that provides funding for transportation infrastructure, school construction, and new jobs on projects included in the plan.
“We have some crumbling schools in Illinois, we must meet our obligations to the pension systems, and we have to ensure that Illinois maintains our transportation infrastructure to remain competitive with neighboring states,” Wait said.
