Wait Advances Veterans’ Assistance Bill
March 1, 2007
Springfield, IL… State Representative Ron Wait (R-Belvidere) announced the House of Representatives’ unanimous passage of his legislation to assist National Guardsmen and Reservists with buying homes upon their return to Illinois after fighting in the Global War on Terror.
The legislation (House Bill 0272), authored and sponsored by Wait, enables Guardsmen and Reservists to receive a state grant to cover a portion of the down payment required to purchase a home.
“I submitted this legislation because the young men and women fighting overseas in the War on Terror deserve all of the support and assistance we can provide,” Wait said. “The sacrifices our soldiers make in order to serve their country and protect our freedom are truly extraordinary. Ensuring that these soldiers can secure housing upon their return is not only our privilege, but our duty.”
The bill will now advance to the Senate for consideration.
